Civil Engineering
VISION OF THE PROGRAM
To enrich students with high quality technical skills in planning, designing and construction, to make them globally competitive for sustainable development of infrastructure and society in harmony with the environment.
MISSION OF THE PROGRAM
M1: To impart sound technical knowledge to students through application-based approach.
M2: To encourage students come up with alternate solutions for environmental concerns through projects and activity based learning.
M3: To help students apply modern techniques and skills and emerge as highly competitive Engineers.
M4: To ensure that the skills acquired are embedded with ethical and moral values for sustainable growth of the society.
The Program covers wide range of aspects on planning and scheduling, construction, environmental, material and their properties, structural elements and in addition they get in depth knowledge in the field of surveying
ScopeCivil Engineers have career options in the field of Survey, Irrigation & Water Supply, Constructions, Structural Analysis, Transportation, Town Planning, Interior Designing and Quality Control.
Important concepts
- Operation and Maintenance of Surveying Equipment
- Materials of Construction – Testing and Applications
- Transportation Engineering – Railways, Tunnels & Harbours
- Construction Technology
- Building Planning & Drawing using CAD
- Detailing & Design of RCC
Civil Labs
With drastic changes in approach of civil engineering, the knowledge of computer is not only essential but also mandatory to develop skills required for design and analysis of structures, planning and scheduling of projects.
The concept of Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) is very vast and needs thorough understanding. In this lab students learn and understand the concepts of designing simple reinforced cement concrete members like slabs, beams, columns and footings.
Material testing helps students to quantify and understand whether a material or product is suitable for certain application. Soil testing is done to assess and analyse the inherent physical and engineering properties of the soil and its bearing capacity.
Surveying practice makes student become familiar and competent to measure distance, elevation, height of inaccessible objects, gradient & draw map using suitable scale by utilizing different surveying instruments like auto level, theodolite, global positioning system (GPS), Ceylon ghat tracer, total station etc.
